Insurance Approved Locks in the Wirral

Euro Profile Cylinder Locks

Euro cylinder locks are very common in UPVC and composite doors which have a Multi point locking system (series of hooks, rollers, mushrooms or deadbolts that engage into the door when the handle is lifted and/or when the lock in turned).

They can also be found on wooden doors or metal doors either as part of the Multi point locking system or in a Euro profile mortice lock.

Euro cylinders can come in a few different configuration as can be seen below:

Key key configuration is as it stated, a key can be used on inside and outside of the lock to turn the lock cam.

Key and thumbturn configuration uses a key on one side only and has a turner on the other side with which you can turn the cam using your hand. These are normally found in properties with a single entry/exist for fire regulations.

Half cylinder only has a key on one side, this type of lock can be commonly found on garages.

There are several standards for euro profile cylinder locks, at Lockforce locksmith Wirral the minimum standard we install is Anti snap (sometimes known as snap safe) locks.

These locks have a snap line that sits within the recess of the door so if anyone tries to snap the lock (lock snapping is now a common method used for burglary) only the end will come off and the remainder of the lock will stay intact preventing access to the mechanism.

The other standards Lockforce locksmith Wirral supply and fit are British Standards 3 star (TS007) and Sold secure Diamond, which both can be found on our high security Euro cylinder lock The Brisant Ultion as can be seen below:

As well as having multiple snap lines to prevent lock snapping, the Ultion uses a dimple key and has a lock down mode which will engage if the lock has been tampered with and will prevent the cam from turning. The manufacturer of this lock are so confident against lock snapping that they also offer a £1000 guarantee against lock snapping.

Mortice Locks in the Wirral

Mortice locks, sometimes called dead bolts or dead locks, are commonly seen on wooded door but can also be fitted to other types of doors.

There are 2 main types of Mortice locks:

• Sash mortice locks- consists of a sash/latch which is engaged by the handle and a bolt which is engaged by the key.
• Dead lock- just has a bolt which is engaged by the key

They come in a few variety of standards:

• 3 and 5 lever Non BS (British standards) – usually seen on internal doors and do not conform to a British standard
• 5 lever old BS –conforms to BS3621 standard but are not date stamped with the latest standards i.e. prior to 2007
• 5 lever BS –conforms to the latest British standards which is BS3621:2007

Both Sash and dead locks can also be fitted with a Euro cylinder which are most commonly seen on single entry flats with wooden door were the Euro cylinder is a thumbturn for fire regulations

Rim Cylinder Locks in the Wirral

Rim Cylinder Locks (or Yale locks) are normally found on wooden doors and are part of a night latch installation. There are 2 common night latch setups that use rim cylinders:

• Non British standards – a basic night latch which may or may not have dead locking functionality. You will normally see these ere there is also a mortice dead lock present in the door
• BS3621:2007 – a British standards night latch will have the British kite mark visible and the BS standard on it and will come with additional security plates on compared to the no BS night latch and will all have a deadlocking facility
