Lockforce Locksmiths Bradford often get asked this question, the good news is that if you have a mortise lock and the key works one side but not the other the chances are the actual lock will be ok the problem will be the key either it is a poor copied key not the original or if it is the original it will be chipped. If you have a UPVC door with the same problem then the pins inside the lock could be trapped, try using some graphite oil to release the pin, if you have no graphite oil you could use wd40 but this is not the oil to use but it may help you out of a tricky situation but the lock will need to be changed as this will not be a long term fix.

Ultion Smart lock fitted in Baildon, Bradford, BD17 - 25th January 2023

A customer in Baildon contacted Lockforce Locksmiths Bradford as they wanted to check the security of the lock they had on a recently fitted new slam shut composite door on a front extension to the house. The lock we identified was just a standard euro lock offering no protection against locking snapping, drilling or pulling. The customer also wanted a safe lock but also the convenience of smart technology. A jammed key not moving left or right was a recent job for Lockforce Locksmiths Bradford this week, a customer in Keighley called us for the emergency and locked out of there home. Mail box key change Queensbury 30/10/2021

When moving into a new flat the customer realised they had not bee given a key for the mail post box lock and the post was mounting up. Window Handle Repairs

Lockforce Locksmiths Bradford called to a property in Eldwick 14/08/21 when the handle on the tilt and slide window would not open and was seized shut. The actual window handle had collapsed, we managed to open the window and change the lock. Once completed we could identify that closing the handle was very difficult and the window mechanism was caching the keeps hence why the handle had broken. Lockforce Locksmiths Bradford were able to remove the window and realign the window to the frame so the window now closes and locks with no resistance and was as good as new

We attended the same day and was able to pick open the safe non destructively and indeed the batteries were flat but the customer also found the keys for the safe – yes inside the safe!

Emergency Key Cutting in Wrose 01/01/2021

A customer in Wrose, Bradford called Lockforce Locksmiths Bradford in a emergency in desperate need for a key cutting as they were leaving for travels abroad and desperately needed a key cutting for a house sitter but as it was New Years Day all key cutting shops were shut. 13/11/2020 Dog walk lost keys

Friday the 13th ! it was indeed unlucky for some customers of Lockforce Locksmiths Leeds for being locked out of their home. On taking the dog for a walk they noticed on their arrival back at the house they had lost their key to the front door and a quick return journey of their steps, still showed no sight of the lost key. Locked out they called Lockforce Locksmiths Leeds and we called out in rapid emergency time to open the door. As the key had the contact details for the house the customer felt it safer to change the lock with different keys and upgraded to a high security Anti snap lock.

Communal door key snapped Emergency Locksmith  05/11/2020

A Landlord telephoned Lockforce Locksmiths Bradford requesting emergency call out to inspect a lock problem with a communal door lock at a block of flats in Shipley. A tenant had snapped a key in the lock and such nobody could gain entry to the flats. Additional Window Security in Baildon 29/10/2020

Windows are often overlooked when it comes to security and a customer in Baildon was worried about the level of security on the UPVC windows especially the downstairs windows. Firstly to meet Insurance requirements all windows must have a locking devise that can be locked and unlocked with a key, this was not the case as keys had been lost on many windows but this was easily resolved by a new key. Stuck lock in Greengates 16/10/2020

We attended to a emergency for a customer in Greengates, Bradford who’s lock was stuck and would not open with the key. Lockforce Locksmiths Bradford duly arrived and found that the reason the key would work was the actual part in the keyhole called a curtain had moved, this can be caused by a broken, loose curtain in the lock or by somebody potentially using a wrong key in the lock. On this occasion thats exactly what had happened as the front key was very similar to the back door key. We repaired the lock and also gave the customer some different coloured key caps so they could easily see which key was for which door. Problem fixed

Police Approved Keysafe and lock change 08/10/2020

Thieves broke into a keysafe in Bingley this week and stole the house key that was inside the keysafe, oddly they did not use the key to gain access to the house, but the house owner assumed they may return that evening. In the Emergency the customer contacted Lockforce Locksmiths Bradford asking for a emergency lock change. We duly arrived within 30 minutes of the call and changed the front door lock to a high security Anti Snap lock. The old keysafe was opened using a screwdriver and the customer requested for a more secure keysafe, we fitted a Police Approved keysafe sold secure. A elderly customer in Baildon contacted Lockforce Locksmiths Bradford on 4/8/20 to ask for a free security survey as there had been reports of burglars and cold callers in the area. We called and carried out a assessment and was happy to report that the locks met Police and Insurance Approval and there was no reason to change the locks, we did however point out she could not see who was as the front door when anybody called as the door was a solid door with no window panels. Lockforce Locksmiths Bradford were happy to help a customer in Shipley this week 17/4/20 who had a very loose lock and was very concerned it would fail. Lockforce Locksmiths Bradford asked the customer if they could send us a video, photos or we could do a video link so we could see if the problem could be easily resolved free of charge without any need for a call out. Camping Trip delayed

Lockforce Locksmiths Bradford received a call from a Bradford Resident who was looking forward to a camping trip when they could not find the keys for their Roof box and after much searching called Lockforce Locksmiths Bradford in a bit of a panic. Sliding UPVC Patio Door

On 2nd January 2018 we received a Telephone call from a customer in Bingley, Bradford who obtained our details from the Check and vetted website having seen Lockforce Locksmiths Bradford are Trading Standards approved. The issue with the patio door lock was the hooks on the Multi Point Locking system were not working and the customer could not open door. On inspection after we had opened the door non destructively using our Locksmith tools we found the actual mechanism often called the Multi Point Locking system was at fault and the gearbox control unit was broken. However the make model and type of system is now discontinued and the customers was worried she might need a new door. Lockforce Locksmiths Bradford then started to strip the whole system down to the bare bones with every screw nut and bolt removed and repaired and built all back together and all was as good as new.

Gate Locks

We received a call from a commercial premises this week 30th November 2018,wanting a self locking devise fitted to their gate. This was so when anybody entered, the gate would lock and close behind them, but from the inside you could twist a thumbturn to exit. We received a very unusual call on the 15th October 2018 from the Multi Flying school at Leeds and Bradford Airport. The request was the key had been lost to a Helicopter due for a routine service, the key was needed to reset the service mileage calculator. The unit was located under the seat so it was extremely difficult to reach and pick mostly blind a very tricky job! Lockforce Locksmiths Bradford fitted new Post-box locks for apartments in Shipley this week 25th September. Key left in Lock

Most people are unaware that a UPVC door – or door that has a standard euro or oval cylinder in it should never be left with a key left in the back. If you do a couple of things could go wrong – firstly if another key holder wit the same key set, tries to unlock the door from the other side inevitably you break the lock barrel. This is due to the fact that the lock barrel does not understand how when one side is engaged the other side is trying to engage at the same time. This is too advanced for a cylinder and breaks it . So if you have many householders with keys for the door please make everybody aware that once you unlock the door you need to take your keys out! Today on Sunday 28th January Lockforce Locksmiths Bradford attended a property in Baildon, Bradford for a lady who had exactly this problem. She had unlocked the door knowing her husband was coming home. He arrived and tried to unlock the already unlocked door, and ending up locking it again and actually snapping the key in the barrel. So we ended up changing the lock barrel to a modern Anti snap for the lady and all was okay again however it was an expensive lesson to learn. So remember the best advise is not to leave a key in the back of a lock you risk a the barrel breaking or your key snapping in the lock. Remove your keys and put them somewhere out of sight.

Burnt Blow Torch Attacks

Lockforce Locksmiths Bradford received a call today 18/11/17 from a elderly customers who had been the victim of a burglary. The attackers had gained entry by opening the outside keysafe with a hammer and screwdriver and simple let themselves into the property. Ghosts Locked out!!

One of our funniest lock outs happened this week in Baildon, Bradford on 30th October 2016, our customer had been to Halloween party dressed as a Ghost and returned home to find the UPVC door lock would not open and she was locked out. We arrived to much amusement of the neighbours to find our Ghost sat next to the front door. Padlock by Ultion

Lockforce Locksmiths Bradford are proud suppliers of the Brisant range of locks and we received a call from a repeat customer on the 1st September 2017 who had previously had the Ultion locks fitted to their property by Lockforce Bradford Locksmiths on the 21st August 2017. They now had a Garden gate fitted and wanted to have the same key for the front door as the gate. Problem solved a new padlock was ordered using the Ultion key code so both the front door and padlock are operated from the same key. 

Café Closed Bradford Low Moor

We attended a Café at the Low Moor Industrial Estate in Bradford today 16th August 2017 to open 12 Shutter Locks that had Yale type bullet locks fitted to them, the owner has lost his keys. We then had to open the main door locked with a 5 lever Mortise. All locks opened and changed by the time the bacon butties were cooked and the café full of happy customers

Argos Shipley

This week on Friday 14th July we visited the Argos store in Shipley, a Emergency door would not open from the inside the panic bar would not release the lock. For Fire regulations the door must be opened quickly by means of pushing down on the bar and this will release the dead lock.  When examining the problem it became evident that the problem was not the lock but the rebate on the door frame was broken from vandal's or a attempted break in. Lockforce Locksmiths Bradford repaired the frame and fitted a new rebate and the lock  now works like new. Sash Jammers to doors and windows a cheap but effective security aid

We attended a recent burglary in Baildon on Friday 7th July and the Police had recommend fitting sash jammers to the house doors and windows. Horse riding cancelled?

A rather different call was taken on the 24th June 2017 from a Horse Riding Stable in Baildon, Bradford the lock on the stable door was seized and they could not open it to remove the horses for the children's horse riding lessons. We arrived within 20 minutes and found the door had a very old 5 lever mortise lock and the bolt thrower had collapsed, with the help of some very interested children who enjoyed shining the torch at the lock we managed to get the door open and let the lessons begin. A new modern BS3621/2007 5 Lever Yale lock was fitted and 10 new keys cut on site, just need a bath now !

Outside Key Safe

We called to a customers house on the 3rd June to fit a Key Safe to the outside wall to a house of a property in Bradford. The customer a elderly lady wanted a key safe so that in case she could not get to the door the nurse carer could open the key safe with the security code and use the key to let herself in. Hospital Thumbturn

We visited Lynfield Mount Hospital in Bradford on 25th May to a emergency situation, a door to a clinic room would not open and the key to the lock was just spinning and the door would not open. The lock was a thumbturn lock on the inside, this is when you need quick exit to turn a knob to open the door but from the outside the lock looks like a standard Yale type lock called a euro cylinder. We opened the door using bypass tools in no time and fitted a new Euro Thumbturn cylinder and master suited the key to the other doors. Emergency over.

Emergency in Shipley

On Thursday 18th May 2017 Lockforce Locksmiths Bradford were called to help the Police to open the door of a elderly man in Shipley, the neighbours had called the Police because they feared for the mans health. The daughter of the man arrived and asked me to open the locked door to gain access and check her father was at home and hopefully in good health. The door was a composite door with a multi point locking system but we were able to pick open the lock causing no damage to either the lock or the door. The elderly man was indeed well and had not heard the commotion outside his house due to his flat batteries in his hearing aid. It was relief all round and time to put the kettle on.

The 19th Hole

Lockforce Locksmiths Bradford attending a Lock problem at South Bradford Golf Club on Friday 12th May. The problem was the garage unit that housed all the motor buggies, would not open with the key and was seized shut. Lockforce Locksmiths Bradford attended in less than 30 minutes and found a big queue waiting with golfers waiting to get their buggies. The Lock indeed was broken the cam inside the lock unit had collapsed, using lock bypass tools we opened the door in no time, allowing all the gofers to get their buggies and get to the 1st tee! Locks to Insurance Standards

Lockforce Locksmiths Bradford received a call from a customer who had used Lockforce Locksmiths Bradford before but had now moved house and with security in mind wanted all the locks changing on the new property. A very unusual job this week for Lockforce Locksmiths Bradford. A petrol station called us in a panic as one of the petrol pumps lock was broken and they could not open the pump to turn off the supply to allow a refuel.

On the plate is also may read British Standards BS362/2007 this is the latest insurance standards and if your locks do not have that stamped on them they would need upgrading to comply with your insurance needs. The Mortise locks generally have traditionally a longer key type.

Nightlatch Locks

Nightlatch locks are very common and often referred to as a Yale lock, these locks self lock behind you when you close the door or have a hold back facility rto stop the latch locking. The snub also can be used to lock the door to deadlock when inside the property. The locks have two different types a British Standard version which has a secure deadbolt and also these locks meet insurance requirements of BS3621/2007 the other difference us they generally will have a  lever bar on the inside of the door rather than a knob turn and have a security plate at the front of the door hiding the keyway. The standard traditional Nightlatch is widely known as a Yale because the majority are made by Yale the manufacturer, these lock types are very similar to the British Standard Night latches but often do not have a deadlocking system and do not meet insurance requirements. The traditional Nightlatch is a great secondary lock when used in conjunction with a Mortise lock on a wooden door. It also used on student accommodation as this lock does meet Fire regulations

MPL - Multi Point Locking systems

Multi point locking systems or often called MPL systems are found mainly on UPVC doors, patio doors, sliding doors and Composite doors. If you have to lift your handle then turn the key to lock your door it will be a Multi point Locking system, also to the door edge you will see the door will have a combination of Dead bolts, Hooks, Pins, Mushroom bolts and lever locks. Hot tub attack Baildon 21/04/2021
