Deadlocks are one of the most commonly used locks on front doors, although they are often used on internal doors, too. They are key-operated, single bolt locks which are embedded into the doorframe.
There are several types of deadlock, which all provide great protection from intruders as they are robust and difficult to force, manipulate or pick.
- Mortise locks fit into a slot cut into the edge of the door and usually can only be opened with a key.
- These should be upgraded to 5-lever locks This is a minimum insurance requirement.
- A deadlock means an intruder cannot break an adjacent glass panel to open the door.
